For four decades one of the most striking songwriters ever, Randy Newman, has applied to popular music his gift for extremely carefully crafted, exceptionally sheer melodically arranged songs and texts, with subversion and sarcasm, intelligence and deep humanism.
"Randy Newman Creates Something New Under The Sun" is the subtitle of his 1968 debut - and in fact: There's something new, hitherto unheard located in these songs about dancing bears and fascist governors of the slave trade and child murderers, about love and hate, and dreams of perversions which dissolve into nothing. Albums such as "Sail Away" (1972), "Good Old Boys" (1974), "Little Criminals" (1977) or "Bad Love" (1999) are rightly regarded as milestones, and on time for this tour we finally have new work of the 64-year-old from Los Angeles: "Harps And Angels."
